Victoria’s words landed harder than a slap. Alexander stood frozen beneath the chandelier while Sophie stared at the marble floor, unable to meet anyone’s eyes. Around them, the lobby had gone unnaturally quiet. Victoria didn’t raise her voice. She didn’t need to. She simply looked at Alexander and said, “You told me you were in Edinburgh.” His face tightened. “Victoria, listen to me—” She cut him off with a faint smile. “No. You’ve had months to lie. Tonight, you get to listen.” Sophie finally stepped back another pace, whispering, “Alexander… you said she knew your marriage was over.” Victoria’s gaze shifted to her. “Did he?” Sophie swallowed hard. “He said you were practically separated.” Alexander snapped, “Sophie, don’t.” Victoria’s expression turned colder. “Oh, please. Let her finish. I’d love to hear which version of my marriage you sold her.”

Sophie’s face drained of color. “He told me you only stayed together for appearances.” Alexander looked around at the guests and staff watching from a careful distance. “This is nobody else’s business.” Victoria answered instantly, “You made it everyone’s business when you walked into my hotel holding another woman’s hand.” He took a step toward her. “I made a mistake.” Victoria gave a quiet laugh. “A mistake is missing a train. A mistake is forgetting an anniversary. Booking a romantic weekend with your mistress while telling your wife you’re on a business trip takes planning.” Amelia stood behind the desk, silent but visibly uncomfortable. Alexander lowered his voice. “We can discuss this upstairs.” Victoria shook her head. “There is no upstairs for you tonight.” He frowned. “What does that mean?” She replied, “It means your reservation has been canceled.”

Alexander stared at her in disbelief. “You can’t be serious.” Victoria tilted her head. “It’s my hotel. I assure you, I can.” Sophie looked at Alexander sharply. “You said you owned half the properties she had.” Victoria turned to Sophie again. “He doesn’t.” Alexander’s jaw clenched. “Victoria.” She continued, “In fact, most of what he likes to call ‘ours’ belongs to my family trust.” Sophie’s humiliation quickly turned into anger. “You told me you were the one funding everything.” Alexander muttered, “Not here.” Sophie pulled her arm away from him as if his touch suddenly disgusted her. “Then where, Alexander? In another hotel that belongs to your wife?” A few guests looked away to hide their reactions. Victoria calmly said, “That part, at least, is between the two of you.”

Alexander’s confidence finally started to crack. “Victoria, don’t throw away fifteen years over this.” She stared at him for a long moment. “I’m not throwing away anything. You did that when you decided my trust was stupidity.” He softened his tone. “I still love you.” Victoria’s eyes hardened. “Don’t insult me again.” He exhaled sharply. “What do you want me to say?” She answered, “The truth would be a refreshing start.” Alexander looked at Sophie, then at the floor. “It wasn’t supposed to become serious.” Sophie’s eyes flashed. “Excuse me?” He turned toward her. “That’s not what I meant.” She laughed bitterly. “You told me you were leaving her.” Victoria folded her arms. “Interesting.” Sophie opened her clutch, pulled out her phone, and said, “You know what? Since we’re telling the truth, maybe your wife should see the messages where you promised me an apartment in Chelsea.”

For the first time, Alexander looked frightened. “Sophie, put the phone away.” Victoria noticed immediately. “Why?” Sophie stared at him. “Because some of those messages mention money.” Alexander stepped toward her. “Enough.” Sophie backed away. “No. You used me too.” She handed Victoria the phone. “Read them.” Alexander’s voice sharpened. “Victoria, don’t.” Victoria scrolled silently. Her expression barely changed, but when she looked up, something final had settled in her eyes. “So this wasn’t only an affair.” Alexander said nothing. Victoria continued, “You promised her an apartment using funds you expected to access after I signed the restructuring documents next week.” Sophie whispered, “He said the money was already his.” Victoria handed the phone back. “Thank you.” Alexander said desperately, “You’re twisting this.” Victoria replied, “No, Alexander. I’m finally seeing it clearly.”

He stepped closer. “What happens now?” Victoria looked him straight in the eye. “Now my solicitor freezes every discretionary account connected to my family trust.” Alexander’s face went pale. “You can’t do that tonight.” Victoria answered, “Already done.” He stared at her. “What?” She gave the smallest smile. “I suspected something was wrong before you walked through those doors. I just didn’t know you’d be arrogant enough to bring the evidence directly to me.” Alexander whispered, “Victoria…” She continued, “Your access to the townhouse, the company accounts, and the investment vehicles is suspended pending review.” Sophie stared at him in shock. “So you’re not leaving her with half her fortune?” Victoria looked at Sophie. “He was never entitled to half.” Alexander’s voice cracked. “You planned this.” Victoria answered, “No. You planned this. I simply stopped protecting you from the consequences.”

Alexander stood motionless as Victoria turned toward Amelia. “Please arrange a car for Ms. Langford. Charge it to the house.” Sophie looked at Victoria, stunned. “Why would you do that for me?” Victoria replied, “Because unlike him, I don’t need to humiliate another woman to feel powerful.” Sophie’s eyes filled with shame. “I’m sorry.” Victoria nodded once. “I believe you are now.” Then she looked back at Alexander. “As for you, your bag will be brought outside.” He whispered, “You’re really ending our marriage here?” Victoria’s expression remained calm. “No, Alexander. You ended it long before tonight. I’m simply the first one honest enough to say it out loud.” She turned and walked toward the private lift without looking back. Alexander called after her, “Victoria!” She stopped once, glanced over her shoulder, and delivered the final blow: “Next time you betray someone, make sure you can afford the room.” Then the lift doors closed, leaving Alexander alone in the lobby, stripped of his mistress, his money, his dignity, and the wife he had been foolish enough to underestimate.
